Pittsfield, MA – Warren leads 43-39 in University of Massachusetts Amherst iSurvey Project online poll. The poll, conducted by YouGov America, sampled 500 registered voters, and has a 4.4 percent margin of error. Fourteen percent of responders were undecided between the two candidates for the 2012 senatorial election.
UMass Amherst Associate Professor of political science Brian Schaffner said those polled were asked to choose Warren or Brown in four separate categories.
Responders selected Brown over Warren concerning the war on terrorism, 33 to 25 percent.
Schaffner says the online poll conducted by YouGov America is comparable to traditional telephone polling.
Doug Rubin is the Senior Campaign Advisor for Elizabeth Warren. He says that the numbers are too close and the poll is too soon to tell.
Lee Harrison of the Berkshire Brigades, a support organization for the democratic party in Berkshire County, says that the numbers show that voters are looking to Warren to offer solutions to current problems facing the country.
The polls showed Brown leading Warren among independent voters 49 to 31. The poll also showed Warren leading Brown by 15 points among women, and Brown leading Warren by 6 points among men.
Warren entered a crowded field earlier this year against five other democratic candidates of which only two remain; Massachusetts State Representative Tom Conroy, and immigration attorney Marisa DeFranco. Warren shows a massive lead over the candidates with attracting support from 73% of those polled, while Conroy received 7% and DeFranco 6%.
Newton Mayor Setti Warren, former state candidate for lieutenant governor Bob Massie, and City Year founder Alan Khazei all dropped out of the race after Warren announced she would run.
Tim Buckley, a representative from the Massachusetts GOP could not return calls in time for broadcast.
