Close Race in Pittsfield Mayoral Race

Pittsfield, MA – In Pittsfield, Berkshire County's largest municipality, the mayoral race came down to the wire, with a margin of fewer than 100 votes. WAMC's Patrick Donges reports.

Former Pittsfield city councilor Daniel Bianchi bested sitting City Councilor at large Peter Marchetti by 93 votes in last night's contest according to preliminary results showing Marchetti with 6049 votes against Bianchi's 6142.

The win comes despite an endorsement for Marchetti by current Pittsfield Mayor James Ruberto, who bowed out of running for a fifth term earlier this year.

Moments after learning of the slim loss at his campaign headquarters, Marchetti continued to reject the characterization made by local pundits that the race was a referendum on the Ruberto administration.

"I ran my race; it was Pete Marchetti versus Dan Bianchi, and that's what the results showed."
