Montpelier, VT – A provision of Vermont's Act 48 requires that an estimate of the state's current health care system be compared to the costs of a reformed health care system. That report was issued Tuesday by the Legislature's Joint Fiscal Office and the Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities and Health Care Administration. The analysis says Vermont's health care costs will more than double from 2009 to 2020 without reforms. But with reforms, costs could be cut by between $553 million and $1.8 billion. The consulting firm Policy Integrity LLC assisted with the report. President Steve Kappel. Vermont Legislative Fiscal Office Chief Fiscal Officer Stephen Klein. Vermonters for Health Care Freedom Founder Darcie Johnston is opposed to Vermont's move to a single payer system. She says all of the savings identified in the report could be achieved thru the free-market.
