Boston, MA – U.S. Senator Scott Brown has voted against President Obama's $447 billion jobs bill, saying lawmakers should instead be crafting a bipartisan measure.
The Massachusetts Republican said he supported elements of Obama's bill, including a payroll tax cut extension, but called the push by Senate Democrats for a vote on the entire bill "a charade" and "political posturing."
Brown had urged Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to instead pull out elements of Obama's bill that both Republicans and Democrats could agree on and pass that.
Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh said Brown "put his allegiance to the national Republican Party ahead of the best interests of the people of Massachusetts."
Earlier Tuesday, Governor Deval Patrick urged Brown to support the bill.
Forty-six Republicans joined with two Democrats to filibuster the bill, effectively killing it.
