Boston, MA – Supporters for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights are marking the end of the military "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy by staging a protest in Boston to draw attention to the fact that transgender American are still unable to serve openly in the military. The protest is part of a coordinated action across the country organized by the national gay-rights organization GetEQUAL marking the legal end of the policy. The practice was adopted in 1993, allowing gays to serve as long as they did not openly acknowledge their sexual orientation.

The protest, scheduled at the steps of the State House on Tuesday evening, are expected to call on local, state and federal governments to immediately grant equal rights to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
