Boston, MA – As he gears up for what could be a long and costly re-election fight next year, U.S. Sen. Scott Brown is reaching out to donors in all 50 states to bulk up his campaign coffers. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...

An Associated Press review of federal campaign records finds that Brown raised $2.25 million in itemized individual contributions during the first half of the year. About 53 percent come from donors outside Massachusetts.

Those out-of-state supporters have also made larger individual donations on average than Brown's Bay State backers.

In Massachusetts, Brown has received 2,200 itemized donations averaging about $485.

In New York, Brown has received far fewer itemized donations, just 166, but the average contribution is $1,520 - more than triple the Massachusetts average.
A campaign spokesman says Brown will need every dollar next year.
