Boston, MA – A total of 31 initiative petitions have been filed with the states' Attorney General's Office as activists across the state work to put questions on the state's 2012 ballot. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...
The initiative petitions filed by the deadline Wednesday include proposals that would change the way teachers are considered for jobs, eliminate part of the state's landmark health care law, and repeal a law allowing courts to issue restraining orders to prevent abuse.
Advocates also filed petition initiatives to expand the state's bottle bill, legalize medical marijuana, and legalize casino gambling.
Advocates of these and the other possible ballot questions still have many obstacles to overcome to make it on the ballot. Once the petitions are approved, advocates need to collect signatures from nearly 69,000 registered Massachusetts voters by late November.
