Boston, MA – The Massachusetts economy gained 10,400 jobs in June, as the unemployment rate held steady at 7.6 percent. WAMC's Paul Tuthill reports...
Nearly all the job growth in June was in the private sector, according to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. Manufacturing led the way with 2,900 new jobs, followed closely by construction, then the business, professional and scientific services sector.
Kevin Lynn, of the Future Works Career Center in Springfield described June as an average month for employment activity.
The upbeat jobs report came out a day after Bay State Health announced large job cuts at the three hospitals it operates in western Massachusetts.
