Boston, MA – Governor Deval Patrick is preparing to sign the Massachusetts budget for the fiscal year that began July 1, after announcing a deal on what could have been the biggest sticking
point in the $30.6 billion spending plan. WAMC's Ian Pickus has more...
Patrick is expected to put his signature on the budget today, 11 days into the fiscal year.
The budget is one of the tightest in recent memory as the state continues to pull itself out of the recent recession. On Friday, Patrick said an agreement had been reached to reduce the cost to Massachusetts cities and towns of providing health care
to municipal employees. House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray both said they support the changes.
The House and Senate are expected to vote on the amendments today.
