Boston, MA – Massachusetts voters could play a bigger role in helping choose the next president than in past election cycles. WAMC's Ian Pickus has more...
Secretary of State William Galvin said Tuesday that Massachusetts's presidential primary, just eight months away on March 6, puts local voters in stronger position.
Galvin said some states, including Rhode Island, that used to hold primaries the first Tuesday of March, known as Super Tuesday, have moved to later dates in part to save money. Galvin said states with primaries on the same day as Massachusetts include Vermont, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Virginia.
The only Northeast state whose primary is ahead of Massachusetts is New Hampshire, home of the nation's first presidential primary. Republicans will be watching to see how former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney fares in the state he once led.
