Hartford, CT – Leaders of Connecticut's state employee unions expect to unveil plans to attempt to stop the layoffs of at least 6,600 workers whose jobs may be in jeopardy after a labor savings deal was defeated. WAMC's Tristan O'Neill reports...
The State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition is scheduled to meet today.
SEBAC leaders will announce how they intend to come up with a savings and concessions deal to help balance Connecticut's new, two-year $40.1 billion state budget.
There was not enough support among rank-and-file workers for the agreement reached with Governor Dannel P. Malloy to save $1.6 billion, prompting the threat of massive layoffs. Some workers have already begun to receive pink slips.
SEBAC has already said it will not hold another vote on that same deal or change its bylaws retroactively to affect the vote.
