Brattleboro, VT – Entergy Nuclear - the owner of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant - wants a federal judge to issue a preliminary injunction to block the state of Vermont from closing the plant while the legal battle to keep it open continues. During Friday's hearing Entergy lawyer Kathleen Sullivan told U.S. District Court Judge J. Garvan Murtha the plant would probably be shut down permanently if he doesn't issue an order by July 23. That is when plant officials must decide whether to spend $60 million to re-fuel the facility. Vermont Yankee is a member of the Vermont Energy Partnership. President Brad Ferland......
As the hearings over a possible injunction are held, yet another lawsuit has been filed. Seven reactor operators from Vermont Yankee are suing the state of Vermont for what they say is an effort to deprive them of their civil liberties by trying to close the plant. Vermont Yankee has received a 20-year extension of its federal license, but the state Legislature blocked the issuance of a certificate that allows its continued operation in Vermont.
