Shumlin Administration to Highlight Best, Worst Places for Wind Power Projects

Montpelier, VT – The administration of Governor Peter Shumlin is in the process of producing a map of Vermont that will highlight the best and worst places to locate wind power projects. WAMC North Country Bureau chief Pat Bradley has more...

The agency of natural resources is using a $100,000 grant from the clean energy development fund to identify the parts of the state that are suitable and not suitable for wind energy projects.

Secretary Deb Markowitz says the goal is to provide wind developers with information during the early planning stages so that changes can be considered before the project is too far along.

But state representative Tony Klein of East Montpelier, the chairman of the legislature's house natural resources committee, told Vermont public radio the agency's mission is to protect Vermont's natural resources, not help developers get permits.

I'm Pat Bradley, WAMC News.
