Montpelier, VT – Negotiators in Vermont's House and Senate have an agreement on a major health care bill, clearing the way for final passage of Governor Peter Shumlin's top priority for this year. WAMC North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more...
The agreement, announced Tuesday by a conference committee, follows resolution of a stumbling block regarding coverage for illegal immigrants under the planned green mountain care health insurance program.
The senate had added an amendment to the bill, saying illegal immigrants should not be covered, but house conferees resisted it. The senate agreed Monday night to a study of the issues surrounding coverage for immigrant farm workers and others who are in the country illegally.
The bill goes back to the full house and senate for final action.
