Comedian Demetri Martin Persists In Return To Albany

Demetri Martin
Demetri Martin

One of the best things that happened to comedy in recent years was Demetri Martin walking away from a free ride at NYU law school with one year to go for a career in stand-up instead.

During his varied career, Martin has written for Conan O’Brien, appeared as a correspondent on The Daily Show, acted in films like Taking Woodstock, Contagion, and In a World, written two books and recorded five standup special CDs.

Often compared to Mitch Hedberg and Stephen Wright, Martin’s comedy is at once deeply layered and incisive and uproariously basic.

Martin’s latest tour The Persistence of Jokes comes to The Egg in Albany on January 29.

A lifelong resident of the Capital Region, Ian joined WAMC in late 2008 and became news director in 2013. He began working on Morning Edition and has produced The Capitol Connection, Congressional Corner, and several other WAMC programs. Ian can also be heard as the host of the WAMC News Podcast and on The Roundtable and various newscasts. Ian holds a BA in English and journalism and an MA in English, both from the University at Albany, where he has taught journalism since 2013.
