Joe Donahue and Julia Taylor speak with Bridget Stutchbury 6-25

Albany, NY – If you've looked up in the sky and thought, "Where have all the songbirds gone," you're not alone. Research shows that fewer and fewer birds take to the sky each spring. Scientists believe that if this pace continues, an additional 25 percent of the bird species could become extinct by the time our great grandchildren reach adulthood. Statistics like that propelled biologist and professor Bridget Stutchbury in to action. In her new book, Silence of the Songbirds, she takes us from the Canadian grasslands to the rain forests of Costa Rica on a search for the world's most elusive birds. Along the way, she investigates why so many songbirds are going extinct and what we can do to reverse this trend.
