Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal was part of a delegation that visited the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday. The ranking Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee says he is doubtful about the border wall President Trump has proposed — raising concerns about both the cost and effectiveness of a wall along the 1,900-mile border.

Global reaction to the results of the Brexit vote has been mixed, with some supporters cheering Great Britain’s decision to leave the European Union. Others who wanted England to remain — including President Obama — are warning of financial turmoil in the wake of the 52-48 vote Thursday. Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal, a Democrat from the 1st district, has long worked on foreign relations in the U.K. Congressman Neal discussed the Brexit vote with WAMC’s Ian Pickus on Friday.

Iowa caucus results show that the battle for Democratic delegates between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has ended in virtual tie.  Voters in New Hampshire, where Sanders is leading the polls, will have their say next week in the Granite State’s primary. Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal will be campaigning for Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire this weekend.  He’s not surprised by the close result in Iowa.

The 2016 campaign is already cranking.

WAMC caught up with Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal, a Democrat. He addressed various topics, including federal gun control reforms. Neal says he supports President Obama’s call for a range of gun control measures, but says his fellow Democrats shouldn’t take an all-or-nothing stance when bargaining with Republicans.

The all Democratic Massachusetts House delegation voted for the compromise to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff.  By the very nature of compromise there were good things and bad things in the bill in the view of Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal.  He called a  yes vote " the  responsible position".

A women’s college  in Massachusetts has received a substantial financial boost from the federal government.   It will mean an overhaul of the curriculum and new services to help ensure student’s graduate.   WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill reports.
