With the end of the pandemic a number of communities are restoring summer festivities. In Plattsburgh a number of events are planned throughout the summer with several occurring during a 10-day period starting Thursday.
The annual Mayor’s Cup Festival in Plattsburgh combines a sailing regatta with events downtown. Organizers recently unveiled this year’s t-shirt design and announced plans for the 4th of July weekend festival.
New York’s lieutenant governor was in Plattsburgh last week for what Mayor Colin Read described as the time to end the concepts phase and begin implementation of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. Read tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley that an old gas station will be removed within a few weeks and public interaction will now focus on implementation of redevelopment plans.
It is the one of the largest annual festivals in the North Country and the largest sailing race on Lake Champlain. Officials met Monday to announce preliminary plans for this summer’s Mayor’s Cup events in Plattsburgh.
The 36th annual Mayor’s Cup Festival and Regatta is set to take sail in Plattsburgh July 11-14. While the highlight is a sailboat regatta, this year, sponsors are helping raise money for a special community project.
