Workers’ rights advocates are pushing for state legislation in New York that would strengthen oversight to address what they say are unsafe conditions in warehouses and shipping facilities.

Amazon’s ALB1 fulfillment center in Rensselaer County is facing new citations from federal regulators who say the company failed to provide medical treatment for traumatic and chronic injuries at the site.

During their unsuccessful push for unionization last fall, workers at an Amazon warehouse in Rensselaer County sought higher pay and safer working conditions. Months later, the Schodack facility is facing fines as part of a federal investigation.

Amazon has been cited by the federal government for workplace safety violations at three of its warehouses. One facility cited is located in Orange County, and another, in Rensselaer County, is being investigated.
