MLB:

The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians have gone a combined 176 seasons without winning a World Series. It seems only fitting for the two clubs to send their Fall Classic to a seventh game.

Addison Russell crushed a grand slam and the Cubs stretched the series to the limit by ripping the Indians, 9-3, in Cleveland, Russell's blast off reliever Dan Otero put Chicago ahead 7-0 by the third inning and allowed winning pitcher Jake Arrieta to coast.

The Cubs put together a three-run rally before the Indians took their first swings, doing it after pitcher Josh Tomlin retired the first two hitters. Kris Bryant got things going by homering for the second time in as many games. Chicago later put runners on first and third before the Cleveland outfield turned Addison Russell's soft fly ball into a two-run double to right center to make it 3-0.

Tomlin was charged with six runs over 2 1/3 innings.

Anthony Rizzo added a two-run homer in the ninth for the Cubs, who trailed the series 3-1 before pulling out a 3-2 win on Sunday.

Arrieta struck out nine while limiting the Indians to a pair of runs and three hits over 5 2/3 innings. Arrieta has two of the Cubs' three series victories.

Closer Aroldis Chapman entered in the seventh inning for the second straight game, but he wasn't needed to finish the victory.

Game 7 is Wednesday night at Cleveland's Progressive Field. Corey Kluber will take the mound in an effort to close out Cleveland's first championship since 1948. Kyle Hendricks will toe the rubber with the Cubs trying to end a 108-year World Series title drought.

Elsewhere:

New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia is now facing a domestic violence charge in New Jersey. A complaint filed by authorities in Fort Lee municipal court alleges that Familia caused "bodily injury to another," and that a scratch was observed on the victim's chest and a bruise on the victim's right cheek. It says the 27-year-old Familia was arrested early Monday and charged with simple assault. Familia is featured in a new anti-domestic violence ad campaign.

NBA:

The Cleveland Cavaliers changed the start time of Tuesday's home game so they could head across the street to watch the Indians take on the Cubs. The Cavs left their arena in a good mood after putting together a 43-point fourth quarter in a 128-120 win over Houston.

LeBron James fell two assists shy of a triple-double, delivering 19 points and 13 rebounds. Kyrie Irving scored 32 points, Kevin Love finished with 24 and J.R. Smith scored all 15 of his points from 3-point range. The Cavaliers are the NBA's only unbeaten team after improving to 4-0. James Harden had a game-high 41 points for the Rockets.

The Spurs also owned a 4-0 record until George Hill provided 22 points and the Utah Jazz made a season-high 15 3-pointers in a 106-91 victory at San Antonio. Hill made four straight baskets starting with about 6 minutes left, scoring 10 points to give the Jazz a 96-88 lead with 4 minutes remaining.

Rodney Hood had 19 points, Trey Lyles 15 and Shelvin Mack 14 for the Jazz, who were 15 of 31 from beyond the arc. Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 30 points.

Stephen Curry hit all five of his 3-pointers while scoring 23 of his 28 points in the third quarter of Golden State's 127-104 dismantling of Portland. Ian Clark added 22 points on 8-for-8 shooting off the bench as the Warriors won their third in a row since a 29-point loss to the Spurs on opening night.

Ray Allen has formally announced his retirement from the NBA, ending a career that saw him make more 3-pointers than any player in league history and win championships with Boston and Miami. Allen last played with the Heat in 2014. He entertained a comeback but decided against it. In 18 seasons, he made 2,973 3-pointers, 413 more than anyone else has to date. Allen averaged 18.9 points in 1,300 career games.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded Ersan Ilyasova to the Philadelphia 76ers for Jerami Grant. Ilyasova has averaged 10.6 points and six rebounds during his NBA career, and Grant contributed 9.7 points and 4.7 boards a game last season. The 76ers also will get a protected draft pick while the Thunder will get a trade exception, reducing the team's salary cap.

Utah Jazz forward Alec Burks is out indefinitely after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. Burks has not played this season as he rehabbed from arthroscopic surgery on the same ankle and left knee in June. He missed 50 games last season with a broken left fibula and 55 games in 2014-15 because of shoulder surgery. The No. 12 overall pick from the 2011 draft averaged 13.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the sixth man last season when healthy.

NFL:

Jamaal Charles won't return to the Kansas City Chiefs' active roster anytime soon. A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press that the running back is going back on injured reserve after developing swelling in his surgically repaired right knee. The four-time Pro Bowl running back will miss at least eight weeks, so he could return for the end of the regular season and the playoffs. Charles only had 12 carries for 40 yards in three games this season.

Elsewhere in the NFL:

— Percy Harvin practiced with the Buffalo Bills Tuesday after coming out of retirement to play for coach Rex Ryan again. Harvin has inked a one-year package following a six-month period in which he was able to rest his mind and rehab numerous injuries that led him to walk away from football.

— Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones will miss the rest of the season after aggravating a shoulder injury that bothered him last year. Jones had been playing with a torn labrum and decided against shoulder surgery last winter before tearing a rotator cuff two weeks ago.

NHL:

In the NHL, the Rangers blanked St. Louis 5-0, Boston doubled up Florida 2-1 Buffalo won against Minnesota 2-1, and it was Tampa Bay over the Islanders 6-1.

Minnesota center Zac Dalpe will miss the next four to six weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee. Dalpe was hurt Saturday in Minnesota's 4-0 win over Dallas.

NCAA:

Notre Dame is ranked No. 1 in The Associated Press women's basketball poll for the first time in 15 years. Notre Dame last held the No. 1 ranking on March 5, 2001. Coach Muffet McGraw returns most of the core back from a team that went 33-2 last season. Baylor is a close second, four points behind the Irish. Four-time defending national champ UConn is third, followed by South Carolina and Louisville.

PGA:

Tiger Woods says he is playing his Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas the first week of December, which would be his first competition in more than 15 months if he follows through with it. Woods left himself open to doubt by entering the Safeway Open last month, only to pull out three days later when he said his game was not ready. Woods last played in the Wyndham Championship in August 2015 when he tied for 10th. He had two back surgeries over the next few months and has said he would not return until fully healthy.
