Sports Report: Thanksgiving Day Football Resets Cowboys' Hopes

NFL Thanksgiving

NFL:

It was a very unhappy Thanksgiving for the Dallas Cowboys. Not only did the Cowboys absorb a 33-14 loss to the unbeaten Carolina Panthers, they may have lost quarterback Tony Romo again. Romo was evaluated for another left collarbone injury when he was sacked by linebacker Thomas Davis on the final play of the third quarter. Detroit bested Philadelphia 45-14, and Chicago topped Green Bay 17-13.

On Sunday at 1, Buffalo is in Kansas City, the Giants are in Washington, Miami will face the Jets, and then at 8:30 New England faces the Broncos in Denver.

Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan says it's unlikely defensive end Mario Williams will play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Ryan provided the update Thursday, when the team's top pass-rushing threat missed his second straight practice after hurting his foot in a 20-13 loss at New England on Monday night. Ryan didn't reveal the nature of the injury but noted he doesn't expect Williams to miss more than one game.

Backup Alex Carrington will start in Williams' place in a key AFC showdown between two 5-5 teams. Starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor is expected to play after he practiced on a limited basis for a second consecutive day. Taylor took part in throwing drills for the first time since hurting his right shoulder against New England.

The New England Patriots have signed defensive back Dewey McDonald to the 53-man roster, and placed wide receiver Aaron Dobson on injured reserve. McDonald was claimed off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts on October 28th, and played in two games before being released on November 12th. He was signed to the practice squad on November 14th, and released on November 18th.

NCAA:

In top 25 men’s college basketball, No. 3 Michigan State beat Boston College 99-68. Syracuse bested No. 18 UConn 79-76.

The city of Worcester has given the College of the Holy Cross the go-ahead for a nearly $72 million overhaul and expansion of the school's indoor athletic center. The Telegram & Gazette reports the city's planning board unanimously approved a project that would double the size of the Hart Center, which was built in 1975. Holy Cross has raised two-thirds of the estimated construction costs.

Track:

Will Geoghegan, a Nike runner from Eugene, Oregon, has won the 79th annual Manchester Road Race in Manchester, Connecticut, in an unofficial time of 21 minutes and 33 seconds. Olympian and defending champion Diane Nukuri of Burundi won the women's race in an unofficial clocking of 24:20.
