Patriots left tackle Nate Solder reportedly had surgery for testicular cancer last spring. He went on to start every game, including the Super Bowl victory. ESPN says Solder was diagnosed during the team's voluntary offseason program last April after a standard physical. He had surgery three days later and returned by June for the end of organized team activities.

Two New England Patriots players are weighing in on former teammate Aaron Hernandez's murder conviction, calling it a sad situation. Special teams captain Matthew Slater and safety Devin McCourty attended the first day of voluntary team activities yesterday. Slater says he is praying for Hernandez and everyone else involved. He calls it a "tragic, sad situation, for so many different people, for so many different reasons." McCourty says two lives are gone.

The sheriff who had former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez in custody for more than 18 months says he's a master manipulator and will probably do fine in prison now that he has been sentenced to life for murder. Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson says Hernandez knows how to use his charm and manipulate better than anyone he has ever seen. But he calls disrespect a "hot-button" issue for Hernandez.

An inspirational Venezuelan man has become the last finisher of this year's Boston Marathon, crossing the finish line about 20 hours after he started.
