NBA:

In the NBA, Washington defeated New York 101-91 for its 13th loss in a row, Boston won against Brooklyn 89-81, Charlotte beat New Orleans 98-94, Milwaukee bested Philadelphia 97-77, Houston trumped Cleveland 105-93, Atlanta topped Memphis 96-86, Utah beat Chicago 97-77, Denver squeaked by Orlando 93-90, Detroit defeated Dallas 108-95, Phoenix edged Minnesota 113-111, Sacramento beat Oklahoma City 104-83, Golden State bested Indiana 117-102, and it was the Clippers over the Lakers 114-89.

NHL:

Over on the ice, the Rangers topped Anaheim 4-1 for their 11th victory in 12 games, Boston bested Pittsburgh in overtime 3-2, Washington tripled up Toronto 6-2, and it was Detroit over Calgary 3-2.

MLB:

Left-handed relief pitcher Craig Breslow and the Boston Red Sox have finalized their $2 million, one-year contract. The New York Mets and injured closer Bobby Parnell have agreed on a one-year, $3.7 million contract.

NFL:

The New York Giants have fired defensive coordinator Perry Fewell and defensive backs coach Pete Giunta. Giants coach Tom Coughlin announced the moves yesterday, about a week after the Giants missed the playoffs for the third straight season and the defense was ranked among the worst in the NFL.

NCAA:

Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has announced he's giving up his two years of eligibility to enter the NFL draft. The 2013 Heisman Trophy winner led the Seminoles to a 26-1 record and last season's national championship. The announcement came the same day the woman who accused him of sexual assault filed a lawsuit against the school's board of trustees.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has named former University at Albany athletic director interim athletic director to fill a vacancy left by Jim Knowlton who is leaving RPI to take a job with the United States Air Force Academy.
