Sports Report: Packers Stomp Vikings 42-10

MLB:

In Major League Baseball Postseason, in the American League, Nelson Cruz and J.J. Hardy homered before the Baltimore Orioles exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the eighth to crush the Detroit Tigers 12-3 in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. The Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on a homer by Mike Moustakas in the 11th inning. It was the first extra-inning homer in postseason history for the Royals.

Today it’s one game after another. In the ALDS, Detroit is in Baltimore again at noon, then, at 3 , it’s the start of the National League Division Series as San Francisco takes on Washington. St. Louis opens its series with the Dodgers at 6:30, and later tonight the ALDS continues with Kansas City and the Angels in Anaheim at 9:30.

NFL:

The Sunday night NFL game was a blowout, as was the Monday night game. (ON Thursday night Football) Thursday's game was more of the same as Aaron Rodgers threw for three touchdowns and Eddie Lacy ran for two more in the Green Bay Packers' 42-10 rout of Minnesota. It was a tough night for Christian Ponder, the Vikings' third starting quarterback this season following injuries to Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgewater. Ponder ran for Minnesota's only touchdown but completed just 22 of his 44 passes for 222 yards and two interceptions.

The NFL has confirmed that its 2015 draft will be held in Chicago. The draft had long been held in New York, but the NFL had been considering moving around the draft and soured on Radio City Music Hall after it was forced to move the draft back two weeks into May this year. Chicago and Los Angeles were the finalists for New Year’s event.

On Sunday at 1 PM, Atlanta is in the Meadowlands to face the Giants and Buffalo is in Detroit to take on the Lions. Later at 4, the Jets are in San Diego to face the Chargers. Sunday Night Football will feature Cincinnati and New England in Foxborough at 8:30.

NBA:

Tomorrow marks the beginning of NBA preseason games with New Orleans in Miami at 7:30 PM. Meanwhile Brooklyn Nets ownership has expressed interest in selling the team. ESPN is reporting owner Mikhail Prokhorov says he’s willing to sell a majority ownership of the team for the right price.

NCAAF:

In Top 25 College Football, Arizona upset No. 2 Oregon 31-24.

NHL:

In preseason NHL, New Jersey edged the Islanders in a shootout 2-1 and Washington beat Philadelphia in a shootout 3-2.
