Sports Report: Yankees Top Texas; Buffalo Bills Closer To Sale

MLB:

In baseball in the American League, Toronto blanked Boston 8-0, the Yankees doubled up Texas 4-2, Oakland blew out Houston 13-1, the White Sox beat Minnesota 5-2, Kansas City edged Cleveland 2-1 in 14, Detroit beat the Angels 6-4, and it was Baltimore over Seattle 4-0.

The New York Yankees have acquired left-hander Chris Capuano from the Colorado Rockies in their latest trade with a team from the NL West.

In the National League, Milwaukee blew out the Mets 9-1, San Diego defeated the Cubs 13-3, Miami slid past Atlanta 3-2, and it was Philadelphia over San Francisco 2-1.

Bobby Cox, Tom Glavine, Tony La Russa, Greg Maddux, Frank Thomas, and Joe Torre will be formally inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame this Sunday in Cooperstown, N.Y. as the feature to a four-day celebration of baseball and their careers as part of Hall of Fame Weekend 2014. MLB Network will begin coverage of the ceremony Sunday at Noon.

Horse Racing:

Pure Sensation overcame a tough trip to nail Choctaw Chuck at the wire and win the $100,000 Quick Call by a nose at Saratoga Race Course.

NFL:

A person close to the situation tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that a Buffalo Bills prospective ownership group that includes rocker Jon Bon Jovi has conducted a feasibility study into buying the NFL franchise and building a stadium in Toronto. The person says the study identified at least three potential stadium sites, two in Toronto and another in the suburb of Mississauga.

Running back Ray Rice of the Ravens has received a two-game suspension from the NFL following his offseason arrest for domestic violence. Rice will miss the season opener against AFC North champion Cincinnati on Sept. 7 and the Sept. 11 game on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rice was arrested following an altercation in which he allegedly struck then-fiancee Janay Palmer.

NBA:

Andrew Wiggins has an NBA home, for at least 30 days. The Cavaliers signed the No. 1 overall draft pick in a deal that prevents Wiggins from being traded for 30 days. Wiggins has been linked to a possible blockbuster trade with Minnesota for All-Star forward Kevin Love. But any deal now involving Wiggins can't be finalized for at least 30 days.

Golf:

Michael Putnam and Tim Petrovic both shot 6-under 64 to grab the lead after the first round of the Canadian Open. Kyle Stanley and amateur Taylor Pendrith is a shot back. Charl Schwartzel is among 11 players two shots off the lead.

WNBA:

In the WNBA, New York beat Seattle 84-80, and Phoenix topped Los Angeles 93-73.
