WAMC Sports Report: Siena Wins Game 1 Of CBI Tournament

In the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, the undefeated No. 1 UConn edged No. 3 Texas A&M 69-54 and will head to the final four. Another final four spot was earned when No. 1 Notre Dame beat No. 2 Baylor 88-69. No. 4 North Carolina will see No. 2 Stanford tonight at 9 p.m. on ESPN. And No. 4 Maryland goes head to head with No. 3 Louisville tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

In the CBI tournament, Siena beat Fresno State 61-57 last night and will have the second game on campus Wednesday, the first non-exhibition game played at Siena in 17 years. The title goes to the winner of the best of three games.

In the American League, Baltimore beat Boston 2-1, Tampa Bay bested Toronto 9-2, Cleveland topped Oakland 2-0, Seattle defeated the Angels 10-3, Detroit edged Kansas City 4-3, and it was the White Sox over Minnesota 5-3.

In the National League, Washington slid past the Mets in the 10th Inning 9-7, Pittsburgh trumped the Cubs 1-0 in the 10th Inning, Milwaukee won against Atlanta 2-0, St. Louis beat Cincinnati 1-0, Miami defeated Colorado 10-1, it was San Francisco over Arizona 9-8, and in Interleague play Philadelphia bested Texas 14-10.

In the NBA, San Antonio topped Indiana 103-77 for their 18th straight win, Chicago trumped Boston 94-80, New York defeated Utah 92-83, the Clippers won against Minnesota 114-104, Sacramento squeaked by New Orleans 102-97, Charlotte slid past Washington 100-94, Miami defeated Toronto 93-83, Detroit beat Milwaukee 116-111, Atlanta bested Philadelphia 103-95, and it was Memphis over Denver 94-92.

Over on the ice, Ottawa defeated Carolina 2-1 in a shoot out, New Jersey edged Florida 6-3, Minnesota out shot Los Angeles 3-2, and Anaheim beat Winnipeg in overtime 5-4.
