Phil Dawson FG Helps San Francisco Beat Packers

In the NFL, Phil Dawson drilled a 33-yard kick to give the San Francisco 49ers a 23-20 win over the Packers in Green Bay in the NFC wild-card game. Colin Kaepernick kept the winning drive alive by escaping a blitz on third-and-8 and scrambling for an 11-yard gain to the 27 with 1:13 left. Kaepernick was all over the field, rushing seven times for a team-high 98 yards and completing 16 of his 30 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Chargers advanced to the AFC division playoffs by taking advantage of three Andy Dalton turnovers while outscoring the Bengals 20-0 in the second half of a 27-10 victory at Cincinnati. The Bengals led 10-7 until Philip Rivers hit Ladarius Green for a four-yard touchdown with 6:36 left in the third quarter.

On Saturday, the Colts came back from a 38-10 deficit early in the second half to beat the Kansas City Chiefs 45-44. Indianapolis didn't take their first lead of the day until Andrew Luck hit a streaking T.Y. Hilton for a 64-yard touchdown with 4:21 remaining. Luck threw three of his four touchdowns after halftime, and Hilton finished with 13 receptions for 244 yards and two TDs.

And the Saints had a 26-24 win over Philadelphia in the NFC wild-card game.

In the NBA, Carmelo Anthony scored 15 of his 19 points in the first quarter to help New York beat Dallas 92-80 and finish 2-1 on a four-day trip through Texas. New York led by as many as 19 points and held off a second-half rally that pulled the Mavericks within six.

The Indiana Pacers continue to lead the NBA's Eastern Conference by 1 ½ games over the Miami Heat after both teams won on Sunday. The Pacers held the Cavaliers to 34 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers in an 82-78 triumph at Cleveland. The Heat kept pace as LeBron James poured in 30 points a 102-97 win over Toronto.

It was Oklahoma City over Boston 119-96. Memphis beat Detroit 112-84. Golden State defeated Washington 112-96 and the Lakers fell to Denver 137-115.

Checking news on the ice, Pittsburgh had a 6-5 win over Winnipeg. Carolina topped Nashville 2-1. It was San Jose over Chicago 3-2 in a shootout. Edmonton defeated Tampa Bay 5-3 and Anaheim beat Vancouver 4-3 in overtime.

In other hockey news, Finland won its third world junior hockey title after its 3-2 win over Sweden.
