Yanks Sign Jacoby Ellsbury, Sox Lose Jarrod Saltalamacchia

In baseball, free-agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has reached agreement on a seven-year $153 million contract with the New York Yankees pending a physical exam. The Yankees have become increasingly pessimistic that they will be able to resign second baseman Robinson Cano.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox will also lose catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Saltalamacchia has agreed to a $21 million, three-year deal with the Miami Marlins.

Checking the NBA, Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd has reassigned Lawrence Frank to a reduced role. Frank will no longer sit on the bench as Kidd's lead assistant coach. Sources say there’s been a difference of philosophies between Kidd and Frank since the start of the season.

Denver rolled to its seventh straight win, defeating Brooklyn 111-87.

Jordan Crawford scored 25 points and Jeff Green had 18 in Boston's 108-100 win against Milwaukee.

Philadelphia topped Orlando 126-125 in double-overtime. It was Detroit over Miami 107-97. Memphis took Phoenix 110-91. Dallas trumped Charlotte 89-82. Oklahoma City beat Sacramento 97-95 and Toronto fell to Golden State 112-103.

In the NHL, Pittsburgh edged the NY Islanders 3-2 in overtime. It was Carolina over Washington 4-1. San Jose doubled up Toronto 4-2. Columbus blanked Tampa Bay 1-0. Ottawa beat Florida 4-2. Dallas defeated Chicago 4-3. Vancouver won against Nashville 3-1. Phoenix edged Edmonton 6-2 and Los Angeles topped Anaheim 3-2 in a shootout.

In college basketball, No, 2 Arizona beat Texas Tech 79-58. Fourth-ranked Syracuse topped Indiana 69-52 and No. 21 UMass defeated E. Michigan 69-57.

Tonight the UAlbany Danes will be looking for their third straight win when they play at Holy Cross.

Finally in women’s college basketball, Amanda Harrington lead Central Connecticut State with 22 points in a 70-53 win over Siena.
