Will It Be A Boston Year? World Series Now Tied

The World Series is tied at two games apiece. Jonny Gomes blasted a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the sixth inning to lead Boston to a 4-2 triumph over the Cardinals in St. Louis. He was inserted into the starting lineup once Shane Victorino was scratched due to lower back tightness.

David Ortiz provided three of the Red Sox's six hits and scored twice, including once on Stephen Drew's sacrifice fly. Game 5 is today in St. Louis. Jon Lester will start for the Red Sox against Adam Wainwright.

Over to the NFL, New England rallied in the second half to overcome Miami 27-17 and improve to 6-2. Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass to spark a 17-point third quarter, while the Patriots defense shutout Miami in the second half.

Andy Dalton had five touchdown passes in the Bengals' 49-9 romp over the New York Jets. New Orleans took Buffalo 35-17. The NY Giants topped Philadelphia 15-7. Denver beat Washington 45-21. Peyton Manning threw four touchdown passes. It was Kansas City over Cleveland 23-17. Detroit bested Dallas 31-30. San Francisco cruised ahead of Jacksonville 42-10. Oakland defeated Pittsburgh 21-18. Arizona won against Atlanta 27-13 and Minnesota fell to Green Bay 44-31.

Alabama continues to lead the Associated Press college football poll after Saturday's win over Tennessee. The Crimson Tide grabbed 55 first-place votes to hold off No. 2 Oregon. Ohio State stayed at fourth, followed by Baylor, which moved up a spot. Stanford, Miami, Auburn, Clemson and Missouri round out the top 10.

Checking news on the ice, the New York Islanders acquired Thomas Vanek from the Sabres for Matt Moulson, a first-round pick in 2014 and a second-rounder in 2015.

Meanwhile, San Jose beat Ottawa 5-2. Tampa Bay got by Florida 4-3 in a shootout. It was Anaheim over Columbus 4-3. Colorado took Winnipeg 3-2 and Los Angeles downed Edmonton 2-1 in a shootout.

In tennis, Serena Williams ended her best season in style, rallying past Li Na 2-6, 6-3, 6-love for her second straight WTA Championship and 11th title of the year.

Finally in NASCAR, Jeff Gordon earned his eighth career win at Martinsville Speedway.
