Boston Takes Fourth Straight Win

In baseball, pinch hitter Mike Carp's bloop single to left in the eighth inning lifted the Red Sox over Baltimore 4-3 last night. Shane Victorino drove in a run for Boston with an RBI single.

Elsewhere in the American League, Toronto passed the Yankees 7-2. Texas beat Seattle 12-4. Oakland cruised ahead of Detroit 14-4. Tampa Bay outscored the Angels 4-1. The White Sox trumped Houston 6-1 and Kansas City defeated Minnesota 8-1.

In the National League, the Mets fell to Philadelphia 6-2. The Dodgers blanked the Cubs 4-0. Washington topped Miami 4-3. Pittsburgh edged Milwaukee 7-1. Cincinnati shut out St. Louis 10-0. Colorado beat San Francisco 5-4 and San Diego won against Arizona 5-1.

In interleague play Atlanta beat Cleveland 3-2.

In college football, Heisman Trophy winner and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel will sit out the first half of the season opener with Rice Saturday after being suspended for his part in an autograph controversy. The school and NCAA issued a joint statement in which they say no evidence was found Manziel received compensation for signing autographs based on current information and statements.

In tennis, day long rains at the U.S. Open forced some matches to be rescheduled for today including top-ranked Serena Williams' second round match.

A handful of matches were completed including wins by third-seed Agnieszka Radwanska and third-seed Andy Murray on the men’s side.

Flash Forward won the My Flag Stakes at Saratoga Race Course under jockey Irad Ortiz, paying $6.30 to win.

Finally in the NFL, it looks like you have a game tonight Pats fans. The New England Patriots take on the New York Giants tonight at 7:15 p.m. for their final preseason game. Quarterback Tom Brady expects to play even though he sat out seven of the last nine preseason finales.
