For Rivera, An Emotional Last All-Star Game

American League pitchers shut down the best of the National League and blanked the Senior Circuit 3-0 to win baseball's annual midsummer classic, the All-Star Game.

The emotional highlight was 43-year-old New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, the all-time leader with 638 career saves. Rivera, who is retiring at the end of the season, received a 90-second standing ovation from fans, teammates and opposing players when he entered the game. Rivera pitched a perfect eighth. He was named MVP.

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano left after being hit by a pitch from Mets ace Matt Harvey in the first inning. Boston's Dustin Pedroia pinch ran for Cano and remained in the game.

Moving over to golf news, the British Open starts Thursday and former champion Tiger Woods says his injured elbow is doing just fine and that he is ready to contend for another major.

In soccer news, the United States defeated Costa Rica 1-0.

In the NBA, New Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge, nearly a year after he smashed his Cadillac SUV into a utility pole on eastern Long Island.

The U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation is looking into an incident involving  Olympic hurdler turned bobsledder Lolo Jones. Jones was reportedly in a bar fight Friday night in Lake Placid.

Finally, Chris Froome of Britain has over a four-minute lead in the Tour de France after 16 stages although the winner of the 16th stage was Portugal's Rui Costa.
