Checking baseball news, in interleague play, Daniel Murphy hit a go-ahead single in the eighth after being denied a homer two innings earlier, and the Mets rallied to beat the Yankees 2-1 Monday night for their second straight home win after losing eight in a row. Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli homered in the first inning as the Red Sox jumped to an early lead and coasted to a 9-3 victory over the Phillies.
Elsewhere, it was Baltimore over Washington 6-2. Detroit beat Pittsburgh 6-5. Cincinnati doubled up Cleveland 4-2. Minnesota won against Milwaukee 6-3. St. Louis doubled up Kansas City 6-3. Tampa Bay defeated Miami 10-6. In a double header, Arizona defeated Texas 5-3 in the first game. Arizona then won again 5-4 in the second game. Oakland edged ahead of San Francisco 4-1. Seattle shut out San Diego 9-0. Toronto outscored Atlanta 9-3. The Cubs beat the White Sox 7-0 and the Angels fell to the Dodgers 8-7.
Moving over to the NBA, the Spurs have swept themselves into the NBA Finals defeating the Grizzlies 93-86 in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals. Tony Parker scored a game-high 37 points.
In the NHL playoffs, the Blackhawks have forced a Game 7 in the Western Conference semifinals by scoring three straight goals in the third period of a 4-3 win over the Red Wings in Detroit. Game 7 will be Wednesday in Chicago.
Checking women’s NBA news, Washington beat Tulsa 95-90 and Chicago defeated Phoenix 102-80. Brittney Griner had two dunks in the game against the Chicago. Griner becomes the third WNBA player to dunk and first to do it twice in one game.
In other sports news, Julie Hermann has not considered resigning as Rutgers' incoming athletic director following reports that 16 years ago she humiliated and emotionally abused players while coaching Tennessee's women's volleyball team.
