WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

Checking baseball news, in the American League, Stephen Drew hit a two-run triple, David Ortiz had two hits and drove in a run and the Red Sox beat Oakland 6-5 to take two of three from the A's. It was Boston's ninth win in 12 games.

Elsewhere, Tampa Bay shut out the Yankees 3-0. Toronto beat Baltimore 6-5. The White Sox bested Cleveland 3-2. Houston cruised ahead of Seattle 10-3. Detroit slid past Kansas City 7-5 and Texas crushed the Angels 11-3.

In the National League, the New York Mets rallied past the L.A. Dodgers 7-3 in 10 innings. Jordany Valdespin delivered the game-winning walk-off grand slam in the 10th. Cincinnati shut out the Cubs 1-0. St. Louis doubled up Washington 4-2. Colorado edged ahead of Atlanta 6-5. San Francisco fell to Arizona 3-2. Pittsburgh topped Philadelphia 5-3 and San Diego beat Milwaukee 2-1.

In the NBA, Oklahoma City defeated Houston 105-102. Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook each scored 29 points. Indiana won against Atlanta 113-98. Paul George followed his triple-double by scoring a playoff career-high 27 points. Lastly, San Antonio beat the Lakers 102-91. Tony Parker scored 24 points.

In the NHL, Tampa Bay beat Toronto 5-2. Los Angeles lost to Detroit 3-1 and Phoenix topped San Jose 2-1.

The NFL draft begins tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and has sessions on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
