WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA, Oklahoma City picked up its fifth straight win by holding Boston to 25 percent shooting in the second half of a 91-79 victory over the Celtics. Kevin Durant scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while helping put an end to Boston's five-game winning streak.

The Miami Heat extended their team-record winning streak to 18 games beating Indiana 105-91. LeBron James scored a season-low 13 points.

Elsewhere, the Lakers held on to beat Chicago 90-81. Toronto bested Cleveland 100-96. Orlando topped Philadelphia 99-91. Dallas won against Minnesota 100-97. New Orleans defeated Portland 98-96. The Clippers beat Detroit 129-97 and Milwaukee edged ahead of Sacramento 115-113. Jimmer Fredette scored 14 points.

Checking the NHL, the NY Rangers defeated Washington 4-1. Columbus topped Detroit 3-2. Montreal bested Florida 5-2. Pittsburgh beat the NY Islanders 6-1 and Minnesota doubled up Vancouver 4-2.

Tiger Woods won his 17th World Golf Championships title by capturing the Cadillac Championship for his 76th tour win. Woods posted a final round 1-under 71 for a two shot win.

In college basketball, with Selection Sunday now less than a week away, the Liberty Flames have become the fourth team to earn a bid in the 2013 NCAA Tournament defeating Charleston, 87-76. Liberty won four straight games as an underdog to earn the Big South's automatic bid.

Elsewhere, second-ranked Indiana defeated seventh-ranked Michigan 72-71. Vermont topped UMBC 85-72 and UAlbany defeated Stony Brook 61-59.  Both UAlbany and Vermont now advance to the America East Conference championship game on March 16. Also, the UAlbany women’s basketball team will host Hartford at SEFCU Arena March 16 and 14th ranked Ohio St. bested Illinois 68-55.

Finally, the United States advances in the World Baseball Classic defeating Canada 9-4.
