Alex Morgan headed in the game winner in injury time of extra time to give the United States a thrilling 4-3 win over Canada in women's soccer semifinals. Christine Sinclair had the hat trick to give Canada three separate leads, but the U.S. came back behind a pair of goals Megan Repinoe. Abby Wambach forced the overtime by scoring on a penalty kick in the 80th minute. The victory secures a spot for the two-time defending Olympic champs in the gold medal game where the Americans will take on Japan Thursday.
Sanya Richards-Ross led the qualifying in the opening round of the 200 meter heats. The 400-meter gold medalist turned in a time of 22.48 seconds. Fellow American teammates Carmelita Jeter and Allyson Felix also advanced

Russia has moved into third place in total medals with 42 -- seven of them gold. Britain has 18 golds and 40 total medals. Back at home Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera homered in the Detroit Tigers' 7-2 win over the New York Yankees. Detroit has won 19 of its last 23 home games. The AL East-leading Yankees have lost 11 of 17 overall. Dustin Pedroia had three of Boston's eight doubles, Aaron Cook pitched seven solid innings and the Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 9-2.
In the NL the Mets were off yesterday but Ben Sheets pitched into the eighth inning and Jason Heyward homered to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 6-1 victory over Philadelphia. The Braves have beaten the Phillies seven straight times
And a former Boston Red Sox player helping out a youth baseball organization in New Hampshire that lost everything in a weekend fire. A lightning strike leveled a storage shed at Allard Park in Goffstown on Saturday night, destroying thousands of dollars' worth of equipment that belonged to the Goffstown Babe Ruth organization. WMUR-TV reports (http://bit.ly/P0oeqh) a nonprofit group led by former Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis said Monday it will replace all the equipment that was destroyed. The organization Youk's Kids said it will donate up to $20,000.
