Opera Tells Saga of 'Margaret Garner'
In January 1856, fugitive slave Margaret Garner killed her infant daughter with a butcher knife rather than see her returned to bondage. Toni Morrison turned the story into the novel Beloved, and has now written an opera, Margaret Garner, which debuts Saturday. Detroit Public Radio's Celeste Headlee reports.

Bush, Blair Differ on U.N.'s Postwar Role
President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair conclude a summit in Northern Ireland. The two say the United Nations will have a "vital role" in postwar Iraq. Bush suggests the role primarily would be humanitarian. But Blair is under pressure from his public and European neighbors to permit a leading U.N. role in governing and rebuilding Iraq. NPR's Sylvia Poggioli reports.

A Conversation with Kevin Kline
NPR's Scott Simon talks to actor Kevin Kline, who stars as Cole Porter in the new motion picture about the man and his music, De-Lovely. Kline made a stunning dramatic film debut in Sophie's Choice, but he may be best known for his roles in the film comedies A Fish Called Wanda and In and Out. He's also won Tony Awards for his Broadway performances in On the 20th Century and Pirates of Penzance.

Actress Christine Baranski
Actress Christine BaranskI. Shes probably best known for her work on the TV series Cybill, in which she played Maryann, the best friend of Cybill Shepherd. Shes currently starring in the TV sitcom Welcome To New York (CBS). She also plays Martha May Whovier in the new film Dr Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Shes won two Emmys, an American Comedy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and two Tonys for her theater performances. Her film credits include Bowfinger, Cruel Intentions, and The Birdcage. Her plays include The Real Thing and The House of Blue Leaves.
'No Foreigners Beyond This Point'
The world premiere of Tony Award-winner Warren Leight's new play is at Baltimore's Center Stage. In 1999, his play, Side Man, was a critical and box office hit. But his next play flopped and he could no longer find a venue for his work. Now, Center Stage has asked him to write a play. No Foreigners Beyond This Point is based on Leight's experience in a remote Chinese village in 1980. NPR's Elizabeth Blair reports.

Liane speaks with "Spider" John Koerner (KER-ner), whose legendary 1963 folk/blues recording, "Blues, Rags, & Hollers" with Dave "Snaker" Ray and Tony "Little Sun" Glove has just been reissued on CD (Red House Records RHR CD 76). The group has also reunited on "One Foot in the Groove" (Tim/Kerr Records TK96CD137), and Koerner has a solo CD called "StarGeezer" (Red House Records RHR CD 84).

Bush, Blair Under Fire Over Iraq Arms Intelligence
As Congress prepares to launch hearings into questionable intelligence provided on Iraq's weapons capability, President Bush dismisses as "revisionist history" accusations that his administration embellished reports to bolster the case for war. In Britain, Parliament hears testimony from two former members of Prime Minister Tony Blair's cabinet who say the government knowingly misrepresented data on Iraq. Hear NPR's David Welna, NPR's Guy Raz and chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix.
