A Vermont town plans to appeal to the state's congressional delegation to try to get a bridge between the state and New Hampshire repaired and reopened.
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation closed the historic Vilas bridge in March 2009 after an inspection found deterioration in the bridge deck.

The Rockingham Select Board chairwoman tells the Brattleboro Reformer that the board has agreed to contact the delegation to pressure New Hampshire officials to honor a 1994 agreement to maintain the bridge. The bridge over the Connecticut River links the village of Bellows Falls, Vermont, with Walpole, New Hampshire.

The Rockingham town manager says the town worries that the bridge closure will restrict redevelopment of parts of Bellows Falls.

New Hampshire officials have not committed to a timeframe for repairing the bridge.
