Governor Phil Scott has announced a series of steps to curb a significant rise in COVID cases in Vermont.
On Friday, Scott announced that multi-household gatherings in public and private spaces are now prohibited. Beginning Saturday at 10 p.m., bars and social clubs will be closed to in-person service. Restaurants must close nightly for in-person business at 10 p.m., but can offer takeout service after that time. College students must quarantine when returning home for the holidays. The state is also requiring all capable businesses to telework. And all recreational sports leagues are paused.

Governor Scott said Vermont is at a tipping point.  “This is about making sure we don’t overwhelm our hospitals and save lives.”

The state reported an average 25 COVID-19 cases per day last week whereas there were 72 cases Wednesday, 109 on Thursday and 84 reported Friday morning.
