Lawmakers are back in Montpelier for the start of the 2019 session of the Vermont Legislature.
The Statehouse is welcoming its largest freshman class in more than half a century with overwhelming Democratic majorities in both the House and Senate.

There are 43 Republican members in the 150-member House of Representatives and six Republicans in the 30-member state Senate.

House and Senate members were sworn in Wednesday. House members elected Mitzi Johnson to serve a second term as Speaker.

Republican Governor Phil Scott is scheduled to be inaugurated on Thursday for his second term as governor and will then deliver his inaugural address.

Scott vetoed a number of bills last year, when the GOP had enough members to sustain his vetoes.

Both Scott and Democratic leaders say they hope they can work together.
