Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan was joined by stakeholders Friday to announce his opposition to a Trump administration proposal to cut food benefits.
SNAP – or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – provides food assistance to low income families and individuals.
Proposed cuts to the program could reduce benefits to Vermonters by over $25 million.
Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan, a Democrat, says a proposed change in how utility costs are calculated when determining benefits puts at risk the benefits of about 68 percent of Vermonters enrolled in 3SquaresVT, the state’s SNAP program.
Donovan says the elderly and those with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to the proposed cuts.
