Beginning Monday, officers in the largest police department in western Massachusetts will have assistance from a real-time analysis center.
The Springfield Police Department said its real-time crime intelligence center is ready to officially “go live.”
Plans for the center were announced two-and-a-half years ago by Police Commissioner John Barbieri.
" The goal is to provide ( officers) with as much information so they have situational awareness when they arrive to a call that involves violence or property crimes or other critical instances," explained Barbieri.
The center receives video feeds from all city-owned traffic cameras and some private security cameras with permission from the owners.
Crime analysts have access to numerous data bases containing information on criminal suspects.
