In 2012, Edward Schwarzschild went to work for the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) at Albany International Airport, working in the early mornings before going to his day job as a university professor.
In the beginning, he thought it might help him connect with his aging father, a traveling textile salesman who loved to fly. But he also worried it might be evidence of a midlife crisis.
Like many of his fellow agents, Schwarzschild was only with the TSA for a short time, but the experience helped shape his third novel, "In Security" - Part thriller, part family drama, and part love story.
On Monday, October 19, Schwarzschild will participate in an online event for Odyssey Books. He'll be in conversation with author John Gregory Brown.
Edward Schwarzschild is the author of "Responsible Men" and "The Family Diamond." At the University at Albany, State University of New York, he is Associate Professor of English, Director of Creative Writing, and Fellow of the New York State Writers Institute.
