Two Schenectady police officers responding to a report Tuesday of an argument at an apartment complex fatally shot a man as the man pointed what looked like a gun out of a door.

Police say 34-year-old Michael Wallace was killed. Chief Eric Clifford says he has asked the New York State Police to take over the investigation into the shooting at the Joseph Allen Apartments.

The Daily Gazette reports a weapon was recovered and police believe it may be a BB or pellet gun.

Update: On March 26, the New York State Police said it has taken over the investigation into the shooting. An autopsy on March 25 found that Wallace died of a gunshot wound.
