Changes may be coming to the 2019 thoroughbred racing schedule at Saratoga Race Course.

Multiple outlets reported Saturday on a source with knowledge of Friday’s meeting of the New York Racing Association board of directors.

According to the source, the NYRA board of voted in favor of a schedule that would open Saratoga Race Course a week earlier, but would reduce the number of racing days a week from six to five. The schedule would keep the total number of racing days at 40.

NYRA has not formally released its Saratoga schedule for 2019. The change would need approval from the New York State Gaming Association.

NYRA Communications Director Pat McKenna released a statement on the issue, saying:

“We understand the urgency in announcing the dates for the 2019 Saratoga racing calendar. This matter is a complex issue that transcends NYRA and involves multiple partners. We anticipate that we will be in a position to announce the 2019 Saratoga dates within the near future. We appreciate the patience of our horsemen, fans and the community.”
