A university in New York is honoring the memory of a black student who was fatally shot by a white police officer 10 years ago with its inaugural social justice week.
Pace University’s social justice-centered programming is for both its Pleasantville, Westchester County, and New York City campuses. Many of the events are centered on the death of Danroy “DJ” Henry, a Pace University football player from Easton, Massachusetts who was fatally shot October 17, 2010. Henry was unarmed when he was shot by the officer who was not charged in the incident. Following a campus rally on October 29 – the date Henry would have turned 31— Pace will retire his Number 12 jersey. The nearly 50 events that began Monday run through October 30 and are free. Some are open to the public.
