A Vermont fire department may bill a woman who drove onto a closed and flooded road and then had to be rescued.
Pittsford Fire Chief Bill Hemple reports that crews responded Sunday afternoon to a driver who was stranded in Pittsford. A woman had climbed onto her car's roof. Firefighters backed a utility truck up to the disabled vehicle and rescued the woman.
Hemple tells the Rutland Herald says the woman wasn't injured. Authorities haven't released the woman's name.
State law allows rescue agencies to bill people who are rescued after disobeying road closures.
Hemple says he's still considering whether he'll fine the motorist. According to Hemple, the fine could exceed $1,000.
The fire department had advised motorists to obey road signs in a Facebook post.
