Dr. Alan Chartock's Morning Commentary

WAMC's Dr. Alan Chartock discusses reports that New York U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has dropped out of the Democratic presidential race.

He also comments on the issue of fusion voting in New York, and a new Quinnipiac poll saying 54 percent of registered voters would vote for former Vice President Joe Biden over President Trump if the 2020 presidential election were held today.

Also in the headlines: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has boosted the country's odds of a no-deal Brexit by planning to suspend Parliament shortly after it returns from summer recess.

Dr. Alan Chartock is professor emeritus at the University at Albany. He hosts the weekly Capitol Connection series, heard on public radio stations around New York. The program, for almost 12 years, highlighted interviews with Governor Mario Cuomo and now continues with conversations with state political leaders. Dr. Chartock also appears each week on The Media Project and The Roundtable and offers commentary on Morning Edition, weekdays at 7:40 a.m.
