Congressional Primary Candidate Condemns Cyber Attack On His Virtual Town Hall

Apr 20, 2020

One of the Democratic primary candidates in a New York congressional district says his recent virtual town hall to discuss COVID-19 relief efforts was attacked by cyberterrorists.

Mondaire Jones, a candidate in the 17th congressional district, says a Zoom town hall he hosted Friday with community leaders and which drew an audience of 100, was overtaken by a broadcast of child pornography. Jones says he is aware of “Zoombombing” being carried out by white nationalists in recent weeks, including earlier that same week during a Rockland United event for a Democratic candidate for a state Senate District. Jones’s campaign reported the incident to the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and hopes that the children in the videos can be identified and rescued. The 17th District contains all of Rockland County and part of Westchester. Democratic Congresswoman Nita Lowey is not seeking re-election.
