The city of Burlington, Vermont, has lifted a boil water advisory issued to residents and businesses in the South End of the city.
Officials with Burlington’s Department of Public Works said the first boil water advisory in memory, issued Tuesday, was precautionary and complied with a recent change in state regulations.  An unplanned depressurization of part of the water distribution system due to a broken valve or other system valve closure could have caused contamination.

Sample results were returned Wednesday. The results were normal, with no indication of contamination, and the boil water order was lifted.

Approximately 2,500 customers had been affected by the boil water advisory.
