The city of Burlington, Vermont, is advising residents of parts of the South End to boil their drinking water until further notice.
Officials says an unplanned depressurization of part of the water distribution system happened overnight due to a broken valve or other system valve closure.  The drinking water supply may become contaminated on the way to the tap and officials issued the warning out of an abundance of caution. Burlington Public Works Water Resources Division Director Megan Moir: “The state has recently implemented more strict conditions in water system permits regarding the need to issue these types of notices.”

The boil water advisory is expected to be in effect until at least 2 pm Wednesday.
